WEST HIGHLAND TALES~
Fitzroy MacLean's collection of highland tales is my favorite of highland legends. I tried reading others after his, but the authors just couldn't compete with FM's voice. He's also published a book on Highlanders (coffeetable type full of incredible pictures). I guess I'm biased now after being spoiled by someone who can entrance me so well. LOL
This book is an excellent source of legends. If you're looking for highland ghosts, spirits, warriors, fairies, or romance, WEST HIGHLAND TALES is your book. I view it as a case study in traditional highland thought dealing with people, nature, and the supernatural. Of course, some ideas are local. You can still get a feel for what Scots believe. Then again, you can add some curses and insults to the mix with David Ross' AWA'AN'BILE YER HEID...
