A FIELD GUIDE TO DEMONS, FAIRIES, FALLEN ANGELS, & OTHER SUBVERSIVE SPIRITS

Mack & Mack's A FIELD GUIDE TO DEMONS, FAIRIES, FALLEN ANGELS, & OTHER SUBVERSIVE SPIRITS is one of those sources of information that made me stop and think. For that, I am truly thankful and always recommend this book when someone asks for information.

The authors divide supernatural phenonemon into categories based on habitat. I've taken more than enough biology in prepping to specialize in paleontology to appreciate taxonomy. The habitats provided are water, mountain, forest, desert, as well as a category for the opportunistic entities that inhabit domiciles--domicile. But what I wasn't expecting was the psyche niche. You really have to wonder how in the heck a less-than corporeal "thing" ends up in a place that takes up no space. Am I crazy? Or doth I think too much? I dare not venture any deeper into this topic here because I could say things about human nature that may upset folks. But this book is an interesting read even if you could care less about the sort of stuff humans are made of! And no, this book is anything but a dry read.

The senior Mack has a background in comparative mythologies and a Masters in religious studies. The junior Mack has a Bachelor's degree in religious studies and a Masters in cultural anthropology. These types of authorities can really do a topic justice!  Or my bias for anthropological resources could be surfacing...

I have used this book time and time again for Time Guardian ideas! Of course, my favorite category is the Psyche creatures! ~Skhye
