And the way going to Tamaha worked around was wild. LOL Great research turned into a wonderful story. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

Cemeteries are also one of my passions. I think every vacation we take, we end up at the cemetery looking at the gravestones.

Reading about a place in a book and on the Internet is wonderful, but nothing compared to seeing the place you want to bring to life in your story.

A trip to Ireland to St. Michan's Church in Dublin inspired my story, Lost in the Mist of Time.

Wonderful post. Though I already knew it would be. :)

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

PENNY! How are you!???? Yes, it is wonderful when the details of a story fall into place and become so realistic. I've had other things like that happen too, but I always marvel when the next thing happens--it's always such a miracle and a surprise.

When I was working at the museum, a man came in one day and said to me, "I only have about an hour to see this entire museum. Where should I start?" We were very slow that day, and I said, "Come with me. I'll show you really quickly what there is and you can go back to the exhibits you want to spend a few more minutes at." I walked across the hall and into the art exhibits of Charles M. Russell, led him right to a letter that Russell had written (Charles Russell used to illustrate the borders of his paper that he wrote letters on, and I had always loved this particular letter because of the illustrations.) The man looked at the letter, then looked at me and said, "WHY did you bring me to this letter?" I told him that I had always loved it because of the illustrations, and even though there were several other bigger more impressive works of art of Russell's in the museum, this was one of my favorites. He couldn't speak for a minute. I thought I had done seomthing wrong! I asked him what was the matter, and he said, "You had no way of knowing this, but I am a genealogist. I have been paid by this man's family (referring to the person the letter was addressed to) to find any correspondence or information about him. I'm from California, just passing through Oklahoma, and had no idea this letter was here. You had no idea who I was. What are the chances that this is the first thing in the museum you'd show me?" We were both near tears at that point. He asked if he could take a picture. I told him that pictures weren't allowed, but I was going to take a short break, and if he snapped them off quickly, he could probably get 2 or 3 before someone else would come to tell him he couldn't take pictures. With that, I turned my back and went into the hallway.

There have been other things that have happened like that, but this is one of the most memorable ones ever, for me.

Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

Hi EVIE!!!!

So glad you enjoyed it. I think the most exciting part of that research trip to Tamaha was the fact that it just "happened"--not really planned out or thought about, just came about--and I KNEW I had to go and see why these "coincidences" were occurring. I'm so glad I did. That was just a wonderful day, and I got to meet some great people along with the research I was able to do. Boy, being in that cemetery was one of those unforgettable experiences, too.
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

HI LIANA!
I SO AGREE! I don't believe in coincidence, either. Everything happens for a reason. Thanks so much for your kind words, Liana. I'm so glad you enjoyed Fire Eyes. I have been so extremely fortunate in my covers!

Thanks for popping over and commenting.
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

Hi Mary,
Sometimes it seems like research is found in the oddest places. Things that seem like coincidences really are not coincidental in the "big pictures."

Skhye, you crack me up! I don't think you are boring at all!

Mary I sure hope you find what you're looking for. Thankfully, I don't have that problem--if anything, I get sidetracked by the way everything seems to tie into the next thing. LOL

Thanks for reading and commenting.
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

Hi Laurie,

That is really eerie about those coincidences with your mom's real life and your writing! I know that had to make your mom feel good, too! Yes, I do feel like it was "meant to be"--these "happenings" just prove it, don't they? Thanks for coming over and commenting, Laurie!
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

SARAH! I'm so glad!!!! I wish you had been there with me, too! Man, when I went inside that jail I just got chills. SO COOL. I rem you saying a long time ago that your gpa was from here--where was it he was from? AW, thanks, Sarah! I love history. I'm so glad I'm able to make it enjoyable. I tell you, I admire Shelby Foote's way of relaying historical events--like he's just sitting there talking to you and telling a story, with "backstory" that they never teach in the history books.
Thanks for popping over!
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

Hi Anne Marie!

THANK YOU!!! Yes, it really was serendipitous. Meeting that guy was just wonderful. He invited us up to his house to meet his wife and we drank lemonade with them. Nicest people ever. I agree, nothing beats writing about places you've been to.
Thanks so much for your comments.
Cheryl

Comment on Cheryl Pierson: Novels born from gut feelings and experiences~

CELIA!!!
