I'm giving away a DVD from the list I posted on my initial CHRISTMAS IN JULY blog post. I packaged them up inside bubble envelopes to save myself some time... and I can't tell what is in each package! Really. Oy!

So, tell me what your favorite topic is in paranormal romance to be in the running. Do you have a preference for time travel, shape shifters, ghosts, fairies, sci-fi, or vampires the most? Just leave me a comment by midnight CST today to enter. Me, I love all of the above. I purposely combined all the subgenres to create Time Guardians. That way I could write whatever tickled my fancy. ~Skhye

His garb was so intriguing. "Since when do Ring Masters wear black leather pants and a ruffled tunic? You look more like a poet than a formidable kilted mercenary." He was more like a poet or Druid in his garb. The sword clashed with the ensemble.

The bloody amazing man turned his gaze from her.

Was he hiding something? By his own words, he had been sent to rescue her. She couldn’t risk mentioning anything about the Orders until he spoke more on the subject. A Druid couldn’t trust just anyone. She stared him down, her gaze demanding him to concede any detail about his origin.

Was she being paranoid? He had already admitted he had been sent to retrieve her. Why? Time guardians lost in history were left in the past. Destiny unraveled that way. And could have sparked history. Who knew? However, last night’s encounter had been odd. If he were a Ring Master, he hadn’t held a sword like a Brother trained to use one. Arthur had all but danced before the Bishop when wielding the weapon. "Arthur?"

Waiting for his gaze to meet hers, she studied his square jaw and black moustache. He moved like a man not used to his body, slinky like a cat that stepped in a puddle of water, then shook its paw out behind him, trying to wriggle his pads dry.

His amber gaze riveted upon hers. "Aye, Solas?"

The Gaelic word for yes was food for a lost soul. "Where are we going?" She hoped he would announce they headed back to twenty-eighth-century Scotia Major.

"To Tara."

Not a bad destination. A stone circle would have been better. But time travel through the valley of mounds would work. The valley was a celestial computer that a trained Ring Master could operate. She stared at his emotionless red lips. "Good to hear of it."

They had to plan how to leave Ireland. Staying here was foolhardy with Bishop Russel on their trail. Together, they could chart the year to travel through time regardless of their marital status. All they needed was his Ring-Master sword to activate the time-travel mechanism. And a little luck in the form of a sacrifice. She would gladly shed some of her blood to get home.

"Your wounds must be cleaned." He locked another mind-numbing omniscient amber stare upon her.

*******
HE OF THE FIERY SWORD
available at www.bn.com and www.amazon.com

www.skhyemoncrief.com
www.timeguardians.com

THE 7TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS!

She has been chanting Wall-E for weeks. But she had no idea that you had to go to the movies to see it. LOL. She did pretty well. About an hour into the film, she grew bored with the bucket of popcorn. I had enough sense not to feed her before going though. So she climbed off my husband's lap. I was thrilled she preferred sitting with him. She then bounced off our legs where we sat one chair apart... That allowed me to view the end of the show. But what about Wall-E? If you want to see this movie, stop reading here.

I really enjoyed the way the show played on defining life. (Maybe because I've taken too much anthropology...) Take two different kinds of robots from different worlds and show how they perceive reality. Not bad. I saw a renewal/rebirth flick. Heck, even the girl robot had a womb. Seriously. She was a probe robot sent to find evidence of vegetation on a used-up planet Earth in our future. She returns a plant to a cruise ship heading nowhere... humans. The humans of our future can't even walk because they've lived in space so long (700 years) and didn't adapt well to the lifestyle. But Wall-E and his girlfriend probe robot take the plant and HOPE back to the cruise ship heading nowhere fast. And humans return to repopulate the Earth. I kid you not. It's very deep. Alas, my daughter learned nothing. I haven't seen anything that deep since THE THIN RED LINE. *sigh*

I highly recommend this movie. ~Skhye

www.skhyemoncrief.com
www.timeguardians.com
THE 6TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS~

THE 6TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

Congratulations, Jeanette Jackson!
Solas's stubborn savior grabbed her elbow and pulled her to her feet where they stood in the black shadows cast by the forest beneath the moon. "Stay beside me."

The edge to Arthur's whisper sent a rash of tingling gooseflesh down her arms.

Good thing he pushed her along or she would still be standing there, contemplating the way he made her heart race. Three magical steps later, Arthur led her toward a patch of blackness.

She searched the distance for a glint of moonlight off metal. Swords, chain mail, horse tack. Not one flash of light or fleeting shadow indicated someone pursued them through the night. She turned back.

Arthur yanked her left, against his iron side.

She scanned the murky wood.

Arthur kept running, shoving her along. Saving her. If only the dolt would give her what she truly needed.

An amber light popped out from behind a tree.

"Here," Moran called softly. "Over here. I’ve found a hidey hole."God-dess-Spirit, save us. Elf Bits and hidey holes.

Arthur shoved her toward the light.

Moran gripped the illumination in a palm, rays shooting out between her curled fingers. The brightness muted in her grasp. The light barely graced the curve of her jaw. One dark dimple was shadowed before the light lost its power altogether.

How did the old fey manage the stunt? Magic was a funny thing in the way it worked in old Ireland with all the iron scattered about. Iron distorted bands of electromagnetic radiation—-waves of energy the fairies manipulated to take visible form. Surely the lantern was made from iron. She had no idea what the brownie had to exchange for the lantern. A drop of magic’s power could stretch across the entire county of Cork on Earth if the instigator wished so of the spell. But this was the Iron Age. Someone could have lost a weapon, gifted a pool a cup, or some poor injured warrior could have died, alone, leaving his iron to grace the countryside over his bones. Whatever Moran had done to gift them this escape was priceless. Arthur had to realize.

A rectangular door cracked in the dark void, opening wide, flooding them with soft amber firelight. Moran’s smile beamed where she held the door.

Arthur shoved her elbow toward the low curved doorway where dark scratches worked in the dirt at her feet. Ogham. Darken this doorstep or live a long life.Goddess, no such warning could be misunderstood. She sank backward into the hard steel of Arthur’s chest and limbs. "Wait."

He pushed her forward.

THE 5TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

Well, I hope everyone survived the 4th of July festivities! We managed with a toddler who had a stomach bug. Not fun. She sure can whine...

Congratulations, April! You won the pdf of DRAGON’S MATE—a wonderful story that I read last year and tell everyone about. I was thrilled when Beth Caudill donated one to our blog event.

Just as the fireworks burst above the roofline across the street, I knew it was time to pick the winner of a dragon pendant in honor of all the dragon-like noise. My husband chose a recipe from those left on my blog July 3rd. Since it was dessert time, I figured he would go for dessert... He chose crab linguini! Congrats, Drea! You've been VERY VERY GOOD! You won the fire-breathing dragon pendant!!!

Now, don't be surprised when I choose the next VERY VERY GOOD blog winner. So, keep on your toes. All participants from now until I choose a winner sometime next week are in the running.

TODAY’S TASK:

King Arthur could have been a real person. Or was he an idea created to represent what the youths should aspire to become? Either way, he lives on in legend.

In HE OF THE FIERY SWORD, I’ve made King Arthur a time-traveling shape-shifting dragon—a new Celtic legend for my Time Guardian series. But what is the sacred feminine? Check out www.timeguardians.com to find the answer. Post your answer here as a comment by midnight CST today. I’ll pick a winner from the correct answers. The winner will receive a pdf copy of HE OF THE FIERY SWORD.

Chapter 2

Druidess Solas stared at the dark peaked hills composing the foundation of the night sky in the southern Irish horizon. She had to think of a way to escape. Fast. The clouds obscured the stars in the almost black sky as quickly as her mission fizzled. Her failure equated to the droning melody of her guards’ cacophonous snoring.

By the God-dess-Spirit, was this how her time-travel jaunt in medieval history was to end? If she died on the morrow, no one would finish her eleventh-century maps of the provinces. The Orders needed those maps to study history.

A sound exploded from the mounds of her sleeping captors.

Flatulence. She eyed the disgusting dark forms for any sign of someone rising.

Surely the horrific Bishop Russel had made the sound. In her mind’s eye, she pictured his flabby jowls and the string of spittle hazardously strung between his fat leering lips. That was one dangling bit of poison precariously tormenting anyone caught too close to his blathering. How could his lips be fatty when he was so scrawny? Think. Focus on your dilemma.

If she didn’t escape, the Bishop would win her, possess her. She would have to commit suicide for duty’s sake. No time-traveling Druidess dared break Code and bear the children of a man unassigned to her as husband. The paradoxical children would muddle up the timeline. She jerked the ropes.

The cording seared her wrists like Truth.

She could never love the Bishop no matter how much he insisted. Her heart was bound to a time guardian who had succumbed to a fever three years past. Her soul mate for all eternity. She could never love any other soul thanks to fairy soul-mate magic. She gritted her teeth and yanked again.

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a wee red light. The ball zipped over the wheezing choir, paused short of her nose, and formed a four-point red star.

A fey? The tiniest fairy she had ever seen.

"Do you accept that your end is near, she-who-brings-something-to-light?" the twinkle asked.

Why couldn’t the sprite simply call her by her name? Surely the Goddess meant to free her. She only hoped there weren’t any strings attached to the deal. "Aye," she whispered.

"Your will now bends to He of the Fiery Sword, Sister Solas. Aid him, for he does not understand his purpose."

What? He? Fiery Sword? No Ring Master was ever confused about time-guardian duty. "You mean a Ring Master?"

"He needs you." The wee light rotated to the east, then spun back to eye Solas. "He’s coming. Show him the way."

"But-" she gasped.

The light blinked into nothingness.

Ignored. And who would expect any less from a fairy?

A dark rounded form thrust up from the black horizon.

What in all that was sacred was that?

One of her breaths produced a set of broad shoulders in the darkness. Another moment passed and she stared up at the towering man’s silhouetted outline.

Clouds parted in the distance. White stars sketched out his black form. Not one sound alarmed of his presence.

What was he doing? Surveying the sleeping warriors? She bit her tongue.

Why didn’t the dolt slice her bonds? Was he her savior? "Who—"

A warm hand slid across her mouth.

He smelled of earth. Smoke. And fire.

He knelt, leaning into her shoulder, and slid around to crouch behind her back. "Quiet." His hot breath doused her ear.

The heat gave her a prickly chill. She struggled to breathe. Was he the Ring Master? Nodding, she craned her neck to peer into his eyes.

Darkness clutched his features.

I don't dare make desserts after I just started walking an hour a day... And the toddler has a fever and unruly stomach. I don't know if the weekend will be a wash. But if I get over to the grocery store, I'm taking a list of ingredients! I can't wait to try the recipes. Just post me a note here and send your mailing address to skhye@skhyemoncrief.com ASAP so I can pop the coupons in the mail even more ASAP. And these coupons are only good at Starbucks in Texas.

My friends and family tell me to just throw them away since I can't drink anything but decaf. What kind of coupon queen would I be if I did that? I'm the kind of person who can't let one bottle of free yellow mustard go unclaimed even if I have 10 in the pantry! ~Skhye

www.skhyemoncrief.com
www.timeguardians.com

THE 3RD DAY OF CHRISTMAS~

THE 3RD DAY OF CHRISTMAS

Congratulations, Kimberly B! You won a copy of DRAGON'S FIRE! It's smoking hot.

Don’t forget: whoever enters my contest today will be in the running to win a sterling-silver dragon pendant on a chain because I’m going to surprise everyone by picking one VERY VERY GOOD entrant randomly out of the blue this week!

Since tomorrow is the 4th of July, I thought I’d save dragons for tomorrow’s fireworks and blog about recipes. I have a few of my own on my blog. If you’re curious, you can find them by scrolling down my page, looking on the left side of the blog for CATEGORIES, and clicking on RECIPES. As for holiday food and keeping with the Christmas theme, here are two of my Christmas-time favorites.

**********

One of my favorite recipes I just discovered Christmas 2007 is the moistest cookie ever. It’s like eating a lump of pumpkin bread. I don’t know where this recipe came from. I increased the amount of each dry spice from ½ t. to a whole teaspoon. I like to taste them. And the more spices the more these cookies taste like pumpkin bread. When I thawed some out, they were still incredibly moist. Just noting them here makes me want to bake a batch. But I just started walking at night and fear I won't be able to stop eating them!

OATMEAL PUMPKIN COOKIES

Sift:

4 c. flour

2 t. baking soda

1 t. each (ground cloves, alspice, cinnamon, nutmeg)

1 t. salt

Blend:

1 egg

1 ½ c. butter

1 can pumpkin

1 t. vanilla

Mix:

Dry sifted mixture

1 c. walnut halves

2 c. oatmeal

Combine wet & dry ingredients. Place ¼ cup of mixture on cookie sheets. Bake at 350 F for 20-25 minutes. Makes 32

********

I don’t know how many years ago I found this recipe in a magazine. I’ve never used another recipe. This is the easiest fudge in the world to make. I added a few things and found most people want the recipe. So, here goes…

FOOLPROOF EASY FUDGE

1-3 small foil loaf pans

3 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

14 oz (1 can) sweetened condensed milk

dash of salt

1 cup chopped walnuts

THE 2ND DAY OF CHRISTMAS~

CONGRATULATIONS, DREA! You won a Time Guardian T-shirt on the 1st day of Christmas. Please send your mailing address and choice of L or XL T-shirt to skhye@skhyemoncrief.com.

Thank you to everyone who praised my Free Read, VOW OF SUPERSTITION: DRAGON'S BLOOD. I did start writing another story to follow it. I just got sidetracked... We'll blame that on my toddler. If you'd like to read my Free Read, scroll down to the 1st Day of Christmas for the link.

Reminder: I have another contest through the 15th--THE SONG OF THE MUSES contest. For details, just visit my contest page at www.skhyemoncrief.com. Sterling-silver earrings are the prize.

Michelle B. has asked me twice what my summer is like. I’d like to take a moment and reply. Other than this Christmas blog event, we aren’t doing much aside from running my toddler to activities that help her "learn" about the world and herself. I’m happy with that being my Myers-Briggs personality type is Most Responsible. And she's a horrible traveler at her age of almost 3. I am hoping to visit the Da Vinci exhibit here in Houston this summer. I was fortunate enough to talk my husband into a trip to see Lucy, Australopithecus afarensis. I studied her quite a bit in grad school and am thrilled I had the opportunity to see her remains. Alas, I had to tell him what the significance of each part of the exhibit was... in our state of rush because my child did not enjoy it. LOL. He-the geologist-wasn't too keen on heading back even with the incredible gem, mineral, and fossil collections. However, we've located a Hello Kitty store at the local boardwalk. My daughter is enamored with the critter. So, we should be venturing there this weekend. Does that count as fun? I know. My life is sad right now. My brother swears we'll be more mobile in another year. We're in the throes of potty training too. Add to all of it the three novels I have in edits... Looks like a long hot summer!

So as for this week’s topic:

DRAGONS

The idea of the dragon calls to me so often that I’m always on the lookout for a new and inspiring dragon concept. One of the most interesting types of dragons I read lately was in a short piece DRAGON’S FIRE by Sheri Lewis Wohl at www.SheriLewisWohl.com. It’s hot. Smoking dragon’s napalm hot. Well as hot as a non-erotica romance can be.

I’d like to invite everyone to enter to win a pdf copy of this tale today. All you have to do is:

Visit www.timeguardians.com, check out my Glossary, and tell me in a comment here what a Gaelic Judge is by midnight CST, tonight. One winner will be chosen from those who have the correct answers.

From the very first chapter I was hooked. I am an older woman and usually read books by Mary Higgins Clark and her daughter Carol, so this was a very different kind of book for me. The concept of a dragon changing form and all the new feelings and experiences he had was totally thought provoking. I felt his pain and his joy and I laughed and cried right along with him. It was incredible and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I would recommend this book to all ages.

***This review was emailed to me.
